Credit counselor

A credit counselor will work with consumers to help them pay off debt, usually through a debt management plan worked out in cooperation with creditors. There are many types of credit counselors, but financial experts agree consumers should stick to those who are affiliated with a nationally recognized accrediting agency and who don’t charge large upfront fees.
